Description
More Than Just a Portrait Lens
The original 85mm f/1.4 GM is one of the best-regarded portrait lenses on the market today. In making a version 2 lens worthy of the name, we had to reconsider the role of an 85mm lens and look beyond its traditional portrait role for new ways to push performance. The resulting lens is a true all-rounder, offering improvements on every level; core optical performance has been enhanced to satisfy portrait photographers. The lens is also smaller and lighter, a quality any content creator will appreciate. The new focus motor transforms this lens from a steady performer into a true sports shooter for close-range capture, while also making it a great choice for movies with smooth, silent focus control.
Exceptional Bokeh
A new and improved optical design significantly reduces colour fringing in both the foreground and background, allowing photographers to capture challenging, high-contrast subjects without worrying that out-of-focus highlights will turn into green-and-magenta distractions. The combination of refined design and advanced Extreme Aspheric lens elements strongly suppresses these difficult-to-address aberrations.
Exceptional Focus Speed
The 85mm f/1.4 GM II benefits from a massive leap in focus motor technology, moving from the powerful but aging ring-drive SSM motor to the latest XD Linear motor. This technological shift enables the lens to be used for the most demanding and dynamic applications, from fast-paced sports action at 120fps on the Alpha 9 III to smooth focus transitions on set with the FX6.
Compact, Durable, Reliable
Like all GM lenses, the new 85mm f/1.4 GM is fully dust- and weather-sealed. With a 15% reduction in volume and a 20% reduction in weight, the lens is now more portable than ever. With new quality-of-life features such as aperture lock and dual focus-hold buttons, the lens will find a happy home in any professional’s kit.
